Event Details
OpenStorage Summit 2010 brings together storage technologists, vendors, and end users to talk about the latest advances in storage based on open standards and open source distributions. The summit will be held on October 26 and 27.
There will be a variety of technical talks, panel discussions on hot topics such as solid-state disks, customer case studies, vendor presentations, etc.
Keynote speakers include Terri McClure, a senior research analyst for Enterprise Strategy Group, and Bill Moore, one of the leaders of the design team at Sun Microsystems that created the Zetta File System (ZFS).
Additional speakers include Adam Leventhal from Oracle, Ben Rockwood from Joyent, and Richard Elling from Nexenta Systems. See below for the full agenda.
Sponsorship
Gold Sponsors will be included in Nexenta press releases leading up to the event, as well as collateral at the event. Gold-level sponsorship also includes a booth at the Solutions Showcase where OpenStorage solutions can be displayed.
Silver Sponsors will be will be included in collateral at the event, as well as a booth at the Performance Showcase where attendees can demonstrate high performance storage components or solutions (e.g. SSD vendors, customized VDI setups).
Solutions Showcase
This showcase will allow participants to demonstrate how they are integrating the latest storage technologies to create innovative solutions for end users. We are already aware of many storage vendors that want to participate here, so we are going to limit involvement only to the gold-level sponsors. We will be updating this site later to preview some of the planned solutions to be demonstrated.
Performance Showcase
This showcase will focus on getting maximum performance out of your OpenStorage system. It will immediately follow a panel on solid-state disks at the summit, so that will be one area of emphasis. However we also intend to feature virtual desktops (VDI) as a theme and how to support a maximum number of desktop users with your VDI setup. Other performance-oriented themes are welcome!
NexentaStor Training
A two-day NexentaStor training will be held on October 25 and 26. This is the last training of the year that will offer Certified NexentaStor Engineer accreditation. The second-day of training will overlap with the summit, allowing summit attendees to also attend some of the training presentations. Training will be led by Richard Elling and Darryl Clark, from Nexenta Systems.
The first day of training will be the Foundations Course, covering the following topics:
- Learn the terminology and architecture of ZFS
- Learn how to configure file-based storage (NFS, CIFS) including recommendations for snapshots and clones.
- Learn best practices for configuring block-based storage (iSCSI, FibreChannel, AoE)
The second day of training will get into more advanced topics, including performance and SSDs, as well as deploying high availability and replicated configurations.
Some NexentaStor partners have attended multiple training courses because of the opportunity to network with other storage experts. Partners can use the "OpenStorage Summit" group on http://people.nexenta.com to plan meetups for this event.
If you can't make it to the summit, you can catch some of the presentations on our live Ustream webcast!
